Could an inhaled object cause your lung to be swollen?

My son had an xray and they seen that his left upper lobe is swollen and much bigger then the right. They said it looks like emphysema but my little man is only 3 months old. They are going to take a scope and look next week. I would be so relieved if they just found he had inhaled something. Any ideas?
