What is a signed requisition from a doctor for an Xray?

my boyfriend neds an Xray and when i called the hospital they sayd they can give him the opointement butt theyy need a signed requisition. i didnt wanna ask what that meant i assumed my Bf new but he has no clue. does anyone kow or have any ideas what it means?
